LEARNING WITH RABBI PILAVIN It is customary to study the Talmud tractate Pirkay Avot (Ethics of the Fathers) on the Shabbat afternoons between Pesach and Shavuot. Please join us at 7 PM on May 3, 10, 17, 24, 31 and June 7 as we explore the chapters of this famous volume. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pirkei_Avot provides background material and an English translation as well. (The Rabbi would be delighted to field questions on the weekly chapter that are sent to him in advance of Shabbat.). Mincha each week will begin promptly at 7:30 PM . LEARNING AT LEVY'S Our day-time study sessions at Levy's continue after Passover every Wednesday morning at 10 AM. Our next series (April 30, May 7, 14, 21, 28 and June 4) will expand on the themes of Pirkay Avot discussed on Shabbat afternoon. LATE NIGHT LEARNING ON SHAVUOT Shavuot is the anniversary of our people receiving the Torah on Mount Sinai . It is customary to relive that special moment by spending Shavuot night (Sunday June 8 ) studying Torah. This year's theme will be “Everything you should know about the Jewish wedding ceremony.” This study opportunity will be held after the Shavuot program mentioned elsewhere in the VOICE. Please inform the Rabbi ( RabbiBobP@aol.com ) if you would like to take part in late-night Torah! RITUAL NOTES Friday night services remain at 6:30 PM throughout the spring and summer. Shabbat afternoon services will remain at 7:30 PM throughout the month of May. Please note that the morning minyan on Monday May 26, 2008 (Memorial Day) will be held at 8:30 AM . |
